Am I old enough to believe in fairy tales again? Does it make me a hopeless romantic? A friend of mine claimed he was a hopeless romantic, I being mature, stuck my tongue out and made a gagging noise. Now that I think about it, isn't there one of those in all of us? Who doesn't want to find that eternal partner in crime. Not to mention the feeling of security of knowing that someone will always be there for you, through it all? And not just a best friend but someone who you want to take care of and someone that wants to take care of you? Or even better- someone that you can be crazy with and over...sigh
Personally my favorite story growing up was Beauty and the Beast. A normal girl that reads books, dreams of adventure and possesses a fierce loyalty to her family deserves to be a princess. She, unlike other princesses, was willing to give up her freedom to save her trouble, magnet father. She then finds herself in new territory and befriends her scary prison guard. Who she evidently falls in love with, and for what? Not his scary beastly looks but because she can see the good inside of him, more than that but she helped bring out the good in him. Luckily he turns out to be a handsome, prince, (bad tempered, but he's working on it). He is a different story with what would seem to be loads of emotional baggage, considering he was turned into a beast and was over indulged from a young age, But that is a different squirrel for a different day.
It seems like as a little girl your allowed to believe in all that and then you hit a certain age and where life comes along, you realize that maybe your prince charming isn't going to come find you in the woods, doesn't ride a horse, nor does he posses shiny armor but instead, works a normal job, drives an older car, doesn't quite have things figured out yet. And doesn't see you as his princess. You then think yup maybe I'm too old to believe. But then once again life comes through and you think whats the harm in hoping for a crazy feet sweeping romance?
